Producer Advisory Council

Standard

Yesterday, the Coastal Research and Extension Center hosted its annual Producer Advisory Council meeting.  Representatives of various commodities from across southeast Mississippi came together to help shape research and outreach efforts.  I chaired the Vegetable Producer Session.  We had approximately 30 attendees!  Below are just some of the topics we discussed.

Low tunnels:  there is interest in educational opportunities about how to best utilize low tunnel technology to protect early crops.

GHP and GAP certification: growers requested education regarding Good Agricultural Practices as well as Good Handling Practices.

Wildlife control:  growers continue to battle wildlife in their fields, especially white-tailed deer and feral hogs.

Thanks to all who attended and contributed to making our programs more robust for our state’s agricultural industries.
